We are overjoyed to announce the birth of our second beautiful son, Zayne Dari.
Date of birth: March 24, 2006
Time: 10:17 pm
Weight: 7 pounds 12 ounces
Length: 20.5 inches
Location: Our Home
We're sure you have a lot of questions for us- here are some of the ones we can predict!
Is he named after anyone?
Zayne's Hebrew name, Dari Shlomo, is in memory of Jen's grandfather, Sam Glick, whose Heberw name was Shlomo.
What does his name mean?
Zayne means "beautiful" in Arabic, "to be" in Yiddish and "God's grace" in Hebrew.
Dari means "my home" in Arabic and "my pearl" in Hebrew. Incidentally, it is also the name of a Farsi dialect, spoken now mainly in Afghanistan, that was originally the courtly variant.
Who does he look like?
How is Jen feeling?
Tired but otherwise, shockingly good. At the writing of this update, Jen is amazed at how quickly she's recovering. Really.
How is Michael feeling?
Tired.
How is Arden feeling?
Arden is adjusting to the chaos pretty well. He's having some trouble getting to sleep at naptime and bedtime, but he is very affectionate and careful with Zayne.
Did you MEAN to have the birth at home?
YES! At week 32 we made the decision to have the birth at home with midwives, a choice we're very happy about. It was an amazing and intimate experience. We're happy to share the details of the choice and the experience - just ask! (Since you're going to ask, Arden was at his grandparents' (Ellen and Bernie) during the birth.)
